Shary Estate

Shary Estate-Original home of Mr. & Mrs. John H. Shary who are buried in the chapel across at a road. Mr. Shary, renowned as the "Father of Valley Citrus," was the first person to grow it commercially in the Valley. Now owned by the University of Texas at Pan American. The Valley's citrus belt, the farm roads in this area are lined with palm trees and orchards of Ruby Sweet and Rio Star fruit. Take Shary Road (FM 494) off FM or Hwy 107, 4 miles south of Hwy 107.
